antique victorian burr walnut secretaire abattant with secret drawers c1880

Description

Antique Victorian Burr Walnut Secretaire ABATTANT and dating from around 1880. Constructed from quality burr walnut it has a moulded edge to the top above a cushioned frieze drawer and burr walnut quarter veneered panel with mahogany lock escutcheons that folds down to reveal a superb interior with one long drawer to the top over a small central cupboard which is in fact a secret compartment and by means of a hidden catch pulls out to reveal two secret drawers . To each side there are pigeon holes with shaped frieze drawer and three small drawers all of which are pine lined with original handles. To the base is a further cushioned frieze drawer. To the base there are three long drawers all of which are pine lined with carved mahogany escutcheons. It is carved to each side and is raised on style feet.
