ANTIQUE LATE 18TH CENTURY PERIOD OAK CARVED COURT CUPBOARD WITH SECRET COMPARTMENT C1790

Description

Antique Late 18th Century Period Oak Carved Court Cupboard and dating form around 1790. It has a plank top with moulded edge above a carved over hung frieze with turned supports. The frieze has a secret key which unlocks and raises the frieze to reveal a SECRET compartment! There is a central panel with carved lozenge flanked on either side by a small cupboard door with carved lozenge panel and with unusual turned ' acorn' knob handles. The base of the cupboard has a plank top above two carved panelled doors again with turned 'acorn' handles and with incised carved initials for F & S. Behind the doors and to one side there is a later fitted drawer and both cupboards with green baize lining. To the base there are two carved oak drawers both of which are oak lined and with original lock and key. It stands on shaped stile feet and has panelled sides and is hand & peg joined.
Measures: 53" high to top x 32" high to base x 26" deep x 62" wide
A most unusual and craftsman made late 18th Century Court Cupboard and in very good original condition with a lovely deep colour and patination and oozing all the charm and character of the period. Our furniture is cleaned and polished using traditional waxing methods.
